Fried Green Tomatoes

Fried green tomato slices are a perfect side dish as they are crunchy on the outside, tender, and delicious on the inside. I absolutely love the fried green tomatoes!! They are so yummy and easy to prepare!

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium green tomatoes
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tomatoes: Slice the green tomatoes into 1/4-inch thick slices. Discard the ends.
  2. Set Up Breading Station: In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour in one, whisk the eggs and milk together in another, and combine the cornmeal, salt, pepper, and paprika in the third.
  3. Coat the Tomatoes: Dip each tomato slice into the flour, shaking off any excess. Then, dip it into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Finally, dredge the tomato slice in the cornmeal mixture, pressing gently to adhere the coating evenly.
  4. Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C). You’ll need enough oil to cover the bottom of the skillet by about 1/4 inch.
  5. Fry the Tomatoes: Carefully place the coated tomato slices into the hot oil in a single layer, ensuring they don’t overlap. Depending on the size of your skillet, you may need to fry the tomatoes in batches. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  6. Drain and Serve: Once fried, transfer the tomatoes to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Serve the fried green tomatoes hot as a delicious appetizer or side dish.
  7. Optional Serving Suggestion: For added flavor, serve the fried green tomatoes with a side of ranch dressing or a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.

Enjoy your crispy and flavorful Fried Green Tomatoes!
