Exquisite Baklava Cheesecake Fusion
Ingredients:
For the crust:
- 1 cup finely ground walnuts
- 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the cheesecake:
- 3 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs
For the baklava layer:
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 8 sheets phyllo dough, thawed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the syrup:
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
For garnish:
- Whole walnuts
- Fresh mint leaves
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C).
- Mix ground walnuts, graham cracker crumbs, sugar, and melted butter. Press into the bottom of a 9-inch springform pan.
- In a large bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Pour over crust.
- Toss chopped walnuts with cinnamon and sugar. Place a sheet of phyllo on a work surface; brush with melted butter. Repeat with remaining phyllo sheets and butter. Sprinkle the walnut mixture over the top phyllo layer.
- Cut the baklava into squares, then lay the squares over the cheesecake layer.
- Bake for 60 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
- For the syrup, combine honey, water, sugar, and lemon juice in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes. Let cool slightly and pour over cooled cheesecake.
- Garnish with whole walnuts and fresh mint before serving.
