* Christmas Baklava *
*Ingredients
- °1 pound chopped walnuts
- °1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- °1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- °¼ cup of honey
- °1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- °2 packages (1 pound) brown sugar substitute (such as Splenda®)
- °2 cups sugar
- °1 cup evaporated milk
- °¼ cup butter
- °1 package (16 oz) frozen phyllo dough, thawed
- °¼ cup flour
- °2 tap icing sugar
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Lightly grease a rimmed baking sheet or jelly pan.
3. Stir walnuts, cinnamon and nutmeg in a bowl until well blended.
4. frequently until mixture thickens, 12 to 15 minutes.
5. Gradually add the nut mixture.
6. Remove from fire.
7.Unroll 3 sheets of phyllo and place in prepared pan.
8.Sprinkle lightly with flour.
9.Spoon a thin layer of the nut and sugar mixture over the phyllo sheets.
10.Sheets of puff pastry, sprinkle with flour and pour the nut-sugar mixture over the phyllo dough.
11.Repeat three more times ending with phyllo sheets on top and using all of the phyllo mixture and pecan sugar to make a stack about 1 inch high.
12.Bake in preheated oven until top is golden brown, 10 to 12 minutes.
13.Let cool completely before dusting with icing sugar and cutting into 2-inch squares.
