Cannes Film Festival 2024 has seen more mature stars – including Jane Fonda, Meryl Streep and Juliette Binoche – stealing the limelight from their younger Hollywood counterparts.
Devil Wears Prada star Meryl Streep, 74, looked incredible in an ethereal custom white Dior Haute Couture dress as she graced the red carpet at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. The silk gown cinched her in at the waist, showing off the actress’ slender figure, as she accessorised the look with Fred Leighton jewellery and towering heels.
The Cannes Film Festival 2024 began on Tuesday, with a host of Hollywood stars taking the red carpet by storm – posing in front of the stunning backdrop of the French Riviera.
Along with debuting the next Oscar contenders, Cannes is well-known for its jaw-dropping fashion moments. In 2023, Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson, 34, Stranger Things’ Maya Hawke, 25, and Maleficent starlet Elle Fanning, 26, led the way.
However, this year, more mature celebrities have been stealing the show in the style stakes, with acclaimed actress Meryl Streep, 74, and age-defying Barbarella star and activist Jane Fonda, 86, providing some of the most talked about red carpet statements so far.
Mamma Mia! favourite Meryl looked incredibly elegant in a custom Dior dress as she was presented with an honorary Palme d’or, which is the festival’s highest honour, at the opening night ceremony.
Meanwhile, Naomi Campbell, 53, revived one of her most iconic catwalk looks from the ’90s on the red carpet, cementing her status as one of the first to be declared a supermodel by the fashion industry.
Jane Fonda, 86, showed off her youthful style credentials as she arrived at The Second Act screening and opening ceremony. The Grace and Frankie actress turned heads in a chic black jumpsuit adorned in crystal embroidery from Elie Saab’s fall 2019 collection. The film star and activist completed her outfit with a leopard-print overcoat and silver heels.
French actress Juliette Binoche, who turned 60 this year, followed in Meryl Streep’s footsteps, as she also selected a custom Dior Haute Couture gown for the Cannes 2024 red carpet. The Chocolat star looked incredible in her off-the-shoulder red dress, before presenting the three-time Oscar winner with an honorary Palme d’or – the festival’s highest honour.
Naomi Campbell, 53, proved that she hasn’t aged a day after resurrecting a black sequin Chanel dress that she had first modelled back in 1996. The British supermodel walked the red carpet for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga at the Cannes Film Festival, switching up her original catwalk look by removing the slip under the gown’s sheer skirt for a more daring, underwear-baring display.
Heidi Klum, 50, has frequently dazzled fans with her age-defying looks, with many wanting to know her secret. The America’s Got Talent judge looked flawless as ever at Cannes in a statement red dress from Saiid Kobeisy’s spring 2024 couture collection.
