He loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and treated her to delicacies. He took great care of her and gave her nothing but the best.<\/p>\n<p>He also loved the 3rd wife very much. He\u2019s very proud of her and always wanted to show off her to his friends.<\/p>\n<p>However, the merchant is always in great fear that she might run away with some other men.<\/p>\n<p>He too, loved his 2nd wife. She is a very considerate person, always patient and in fact is the merchant\u2019s confidant.<\/p>\n<p>Whenever the merchant faced some problems, he always turned to his 2nd wife and she would always help him out and tide him through difficult times.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the merchant\u2019s 1st wife is a very loyal partner and has made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and business as well as taking care of the household.<\/p>\n<p>However, the merchant did not love the first wife and although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her.<\/p>\n<p>One day, the merchant fell ill. Before long, he knew that he was going to die soon. He thought of his luxurious life and told himself,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow I have 4 wives with me. But when I die, I\u2019ll be alone. How lonely I\u2019ll be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thus, he asked the 4th wife, \u201cI loved you most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I\u2019m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo way!\u201d replied the 4th wife and she walked away without another word. Now that I\u2019m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo!\u201d replied the 3rd wife. \u201dLife is so good over here! I\u2019m going to remarry when you die!\u201d The merchant\u2019s heart sank and turned cold.<\/p>\n<p>He then asked the 2nd wife, \u201cI always turned to you for help and you\u2019ve always helped me out. Now I need your help again. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"entered lazyloaded aligncenter wp-image-1115 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pawbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/551\/2020\/05\/k.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"380\" data-lazy-src=\"http:\/\/www.pawbuzz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/551\/2020\/05\/k.jpg\" data-ll-status=\"loaded\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry, I can\u2019t help you out this time!\u201d replied the 2nd wife. \u201cAt the very most, I can only send you to your grave.\u201d The answer came like a bolt of thunder and the merchant was devastated.<\/p>\n<p>Then a voice called out: \u201cI\u2019ll leave with you. I\u2019ll follow you no matter where you go.\u201d The merchant looked up and there was his first wife.<\/p>\n<p>She was so skinny, almost like she suffered from malnutrition. Greatly grieved, the merchant said, \u201cI should have taken much better care of you while I could have!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Every man and woman has four wives or husbands. What do these wives signify?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>THE FOURTH WIFE<\/p>\n<p>The 4th \u2018wife\u2019 is our body. We love our body day and night. In the morning, we wash our face, put on clothing and shoes. We give food to our body. We take care of our body like the fourth wife in this story.<\/p>\n<p>But unfortunately, at the end of our life, the body, the fourth \u2018wife\u2019 cannot follow us to the next world. As it is stated in a commentary, \u2018When the last breath leaves our body, the healthy color of the face is transformed, and we lose the appearance of radiant life.<\/p>\n<p>Our loved ones may gather around and lament, but to no avail. When such an event occurs, the body is sent into an open field and cremated, leaving only the white ashes.\u2019 This is the destination of our body.<\/p>\n<p>THE THIRD WIFE<\/p>\n<p>Our 3rd wife? Our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, they all go to others.<\/p>\n<p>THE SECOND WIFE<\/p>\n<p>The 2nd wife is our family and friends.
