She made it, adapted it, and over the years it became a holiday staple. The stuffing balls come out of the oven crisp and delicious, but Frank swears that, like all the best holiday food, they are even better the next day.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>INGREDIENTS<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 loaves white bread<\/li>\n<li>2 eggs<\/li>\n<li>1 cup milk<\/li>\n<li>1 cup water<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 cup butter<\/li>\n<li>2 stalks celery, chopped<\/li>\n<li>1 large onion, chopped<\/li>\n<li>1 small green pepper, chopped (optional)<\/li>\n<li>salt, to taste<\/li>\n<li>pepper, to taste<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped<\/li>\n<li>2 teaspoons ground sage<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/2-2 teaspoons poultry seasoning<\/li>\n<li>Turkey broth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>DIRECTIONS<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Open the loaves of bread and allow the bread to get stale for a day.<\/p>\n<p>Tear the bread into 1-1\/2\u2033 pieces including the crusts.<\/p>\n<p>Beat the eggs with the milk and water; sparingly, drizzle this mixture over the bread and mix it in just to moisten.<\/p>\n<p>Saute the celery, onions, and green pepper in the butter until translucent. Salt and pepper to taste.<\/p>\n<p>Add the warm celery and butter mixture to the bread.<\/p>\n<p>Add the parsley and sprinkle in a little rubbed sage.<\/p>\n<p>Cover lightly with poultry seasoning.<\/p>\n<p>Gently toss with your hands.<\/p>\n<p>Gently push the stuffing mixture into the corner of your mixing pan and allow to sit for 30 minutes to absorb the liquid in the bread.<\/p>\n<p>Form the stuffing into small balls similar to a baseball.<\/p>\n<p>You may freeze the balls at this point by arranging on a baking sheet and flash freezing.<\/p>\n<p>When frozen, place stuffing balls in the bread bag wrappers.<\/p>\n<p>When ready to bake, place balls in a 9 x 13 inch pan with about 1\/4\u2033 hot broth in the bottom of the pan.<\/p>\n<p>You can bake them frozen or defrosted, adjust your time accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 minutes, basting a few times until browned<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"font-size: 0px; height: 0px; line-height: 0px; margin: 0; padding: 0; clear: both;\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My husband\u2019s Mom discovered a version of this dish in a local recipe pamphlet in Norfolk, Virginia in the 80s.
