I just used what I had leftover<\/li>\n<li>-Cheddar Cheese, about four cups grated. I used a mix of white and yellow.<\/li>\n<li>-Butter, 6 tablespoons<\/li>\n<li>-Flour, 1\/3 cup<\/li>\n<li>-Milk, 3 cups<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0-Salt\/Pepper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Directions<\/h3>\n<p>Slice the onion into thin rings.<\/p>\n<p>Snip the sage.<\/p>\n<p>Scrub the potatoes and slice them into thin slices. There\u2019s no need to peel them unless you just can\u2019t stand not to.<\/p>\n<p>Dice the ham.<\/p>\n<p>Grate the cheese.<\/p>\n<p>In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.<\/p>\n<p>Add the flour and stir until very well blended and starting to thicken.<\/p>\n<p>Gradually add the milk, stirring continuously. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens.<\/p>\n<p>Spread just a little white sauce in the bottom of a rectangular baking dish. Arrange a layer of potatoes so that they\u2019re just slightly overlapping.<\/p>\n<p>Arrange a few onion rings, add ham and sprinkle with sage.<\/p>\n<p>Sprinkle with a generous amount of cheese.<\/p>\n<p>Drizzle with white sauce and repeat another layer.<\/p>\n<p>Finish with a layer of white sauce and a little cheese. Sprinkle with salt and coarse ground pepper.<\/p>\n<p>Bake in the lower part of the oven, at 350, for about an hour or until the potatoes are tender. Let it sit a few minutes before serving.<\/p>\n<p>The side of steamed broccoli made it feel a little healthier.
